Governor Scott signs two civil rights bills

Thanks to the members of a coalition of pro-Democracy groups (including Indivisible, VPIRG, ACLU, Third Act and others) the Governor heard the voice of the people and signed both S209 - An act prohibiting civil arrest in sensitive locations, and S227 - An act relating to creating immigration protocols in Vermont schools. It takes a lot of coordinated effort, but sometimes the system can be made to do good things!

Thanks for all your calls and messages to legislators and the Governor - they worked.

Fight Trump's Takeover of Elections

The Postal Service is considering new rules requiring states to give their voter rolls to the Federal Government to check before they deliver a mail-in ballot. This would make the USPS, which answers to Trump, the gatekeeper for national elections, in violation of the Constitution. It would make it harder for seniors, disabled citizens, working people, folks with limited transportation, and others to vote. It is the next step in Trump's attacks on our free and fair elections. You can comment by, ironically, sending email to PCFederalRegister@usps.gov with a subject line of "Ballot Mail," by 5pm ET on Thursday, July 2. Comments must include your name and address. Maybe something like this:

I oppose the proposed changes to vote-by-mail. The constitution says the states run elections, and the current system works well with no evidence of fraud or abuse. Shifting responsibility to USPS would only add delays, expense, and opportunities for error and voter disenfranchisement.

Now is a good time to speak up!
